USMLE score submit to DO residencies?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One of the fourth year student told me that you dont have to submit your USMLE score if you're applying to a DO residency. But if you're applying to an MD residency then you do have to submit your USMLE score if you have taken USMLE - he also said that there is no way MD residency people wil find out if you've taken USMLE or not, but just in case they do find out (coz a lot of people have a lot of contacts) that you've taken USMLE and haven't submitted the score, you'll be kicked out of that program.

What I heard (so take it with a grain of salt) is that USMLE scores didn't have to be submitted when applying for DO residencies in the past, but they have changed that rule since and now submission of USMLE scores is a requirement.

I don't think you have to submit your USMLE scores to AOA residencies. If you do, it probably won't have any bearing on you getting in. Shoot, many of the AOA residencies probably don't even know what a good USMLE score is. If they have a points system in place, it will no doubt hinge on your COMLEX and not your USMLE score. The only way I can see it coming into play is if perhaps there is a (fairly young) MD on staff. In this case, if you have a good USMLE score it could possibly help your cause.

my understanding is that because they know a lot of students are taking both exams these days, some AOA residencies are starting to ask whether or not you took the USMLE. If you put yes, then they're likely to ask how you did.

If you take it, and are ever asked about it, my advice would be just to be honest about it.

This is an extreme and unrelated example... but let's just say things have a way of finding you: http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978246929
