Hi everyone,

I just wanted to make sure I have this right, since the USMLE website is confusing and makes finding information like a covert mission.

The USMLE Step 1 exam is 8 hours long, consisting of 350 questions (7 blocks of 50 questions each).

I just have some questions.

1. How much break time do we get?
2. How long for lunch do we get?
3. When do we get those break times?
4. Are there any computer-based tutorials available?

any other information anyone knows would be greatly appreciated. It seems like the NBME wants to keep the details of this test secret (or maybe I'm ******ed and don't know how to find stuff on their website)

Thanks,

FatKid

My understanding:
Exam is 7 blocks of 48 questions in 60" each with 1 hour of break (total: 8 hours).
You can use the break time however you like:
You can do 4 blocks, take a 1 hour lunch, take 3 blocks, peace out.
You can do each block w/ a 5" break between and then a larger chunk of time for lunchm etc

There's a tutorial for how to use the program. If you take it, but just click through it, you get that time added to your break time (15"?)
If you finish any blocks early, you get that time added to your break time as well.

You can download the software/tutorials
http://usmle.org/Examinations/practice_materials.html

Currently, they have been using the Fredv1 software, but are supposed to start switching to fredv2 May 15th (yesterday). It's supposed to be a progressive transition, so call your center to check.

I have a question...
So I took the exam yesterday (5/19) and it was intense!!! My second block was ridiculously hard and I wanted to know if anyone knows how the exams are scored? Is there a curve, or are questions dropped?

Thanks!
