I am just curious if anyone else has heard this is an option. I have heard this from a few people, but unsure of the overall consensus.

I did not take step 1, but now I feel like I probably could have done better on the USMLE than the COMLEX.

Just curious if taking step 2 now, without step 1, would make any sense.
I am fairly certain programs *are* weighing step 2 just as heavily as step 1...

Not thinking I will be able to apply to allopathic programs (that don't accept the COMLEX, since plenty allopathic programs do) w/ only step 2, but perhaps if I apply to an allopathic AOA-approved program then maybe a good USMLE step 2 score may help me a little?

What do you think?

I might be wrong, but I dont think you can sit for step 2 of the usmle if you havent passed step 1, and that would be equivalent to not having taken it.
I would also question whether or not taking the usmle at this point makes sense, since as you said, you are NOT applying to MD programs. Since the match is around the corner, even if you do take the step 2 exam, it wouldnt matter at this point.

you can take step 2 out of sequence being a DO.

I *am* applying to some allopathic programs that are not AOA accredited but DO accept the COMLEX. Just curious if having step 2 USMLE w/o step 1 would make any sense?

I am a 3rd year student, so I am not worrying about the match.

Ok, I thought you were a 4th year...YES take the USMLE. If you are only taking step 2, then you might have to answer the question as to why you didnt take step 1, but you can come to that bridge when you cross it.

You can take steps 1, 2CK and 2CS in any order.

I'm doing 2CS (passed), 2CK (result pending) and then step 1 in June.
