USMLE Step 3 and Peds Fellowship

Good evening, everyone! Can anyone weigh in on the importance of usmle step 3 score when applying for pediatric (any sub-specialty) fellowship? DOs only need to take comlex 3 for licensing, but is there a value in taking usmle step 3 in order to be competitive for a fellowship?

The score is irrelevant, but you'll need to pass it in order to get licensed (not all fellowship programs require you to be licensed, but you need to have a license to take your general pediatric boards). Just pass it and don't worry about it. The hard part is that Step 3 is stupidly focused on adult medicine, which may be a bit fuzzy to you after a few years of pediatric residency.

Agree with above--I don't think anyone cares about the score, but I'd get it out of the way ASAP. Everyone at my program takes it in intern year before we have a chance to forget all that adult nonsense.
