I was wondering how long the USMLE step 1 and 2 are valid till?
is it possible to write both exams and take a year of absence before starting residency?

is it possible to write both exams and take a year of absence before starting residency?

From my understanding once you passed Step 1 you would have needed to pass Step 2 and 3 within a 7 year period for them to be valid.

So if you pass each one every year....

Yr1: Pass Step 1
Yr2: Pass Step 2
Yr3, 4, 5, 6: Essentialy you could take 4 years off 🙄, but who would want to do that? 😕
Yr7: Pass Step 3

But I would get in contact with your Dean just to make sure! 😉
