Just got USMLE world, and am averaging 61% after doing 350 questions. Taking the test in July. Do you think that if I concentrated on just UW and just learned all the concepts in the questions, that i'd be able to score high? Do you think that i'll be able to get in the 70's by the time test time comes around? What else should i use as a resource?

Thanks!

Probably not.

World is good, but it can't cover everything that you could possibly need to know in 2000 questions. You are going to need first aid and goljan and microcards and biochem books and about 10 other books.

depends on how much material you retained from your first 2 years of medical school. if you rocked your exams, and remember most of the material, then you have a good chance of scoring high (with or without UW, FA or whatever else is considered the bible of Step 1 these days). but if you are mortal (like the rest of us) then a couple of solid review books (of your choice) and UW wouldn't be a bad starting point.

Good Luck

It's probably something that depends a lot on your learning style. If you're really good at assimilating those random chunks of information that would come out of doing just questions, you might be ok. Most people, though, would probably benefit from doing some actual studying and seeing things in the larger context. No, you don't necessarily need 10 other books. If you have retained information pretty well from the last 2 years, you can probably get by like I did with FA and minimal other review books (I used BRS Path and BRS Phys).

You wouldn't be doing yourself any favors by just doing UW. With that average, you'd probably score OK on the step, but with a little more effort and a couple more resources you could maximize your potential and get a great score.

I saw you have the Kaplan books. If you get through those and maybe use Rapid Review Path and First Aid you'd be more likely to do really well, IMO.

Good luck.

UW actually is a qbank with explanations. It would be better on safe side with a few review book. Take a nbme form to see where you stand now and build your strategy with it. It would be more efficient than others opinion regarding your future percentile 😉

Also, I recommend saving UW until your hardcore study time. Doing it now, while you aren't reviewing means that there are probably quite a few questions that you have no idea about which are wasted questions as far as learning potential. Use qbank or something else up until the month before.
