What are your experiences with using USMLE World CK qbank to study for the shelf exams? Did it help you to do better? Did it give you a heads up on studying for Step 2 CK? I've been struggling on the shelf exams so far, and I was wondering if this could potentially help..

Only used Case Files for shelf exams (86 average on the 4 I used it on), but did use USMLE World for CK, and I think it was helpful.

I feel there is probably too much detail given time constraints with shelf exams (i.e. clinical duties), but it probably would have been helpful to see the questions before when studying for CK.

Bad way of saying: good questions, use them if you have time

Surgery, use Petsana notes / Kaplan. I dont advocate piracy, but since those notes are a decade old and have penetrated literally every russian, australian, and venezuelan server, use them.

Medicine, WAY too many questions to possibly get through.

However, the UWorld questions were harder than shelf, but easier than Step 2. If you are struggling with shelves, you will struggle with Step 2. Getting some practice is extremely helpful. However, without a knowledge base from some reading during your clerkship, you are going to fail at practice questions.

It is an excellent resource, will prepare you for the shelf, but you must have some knowledge reading other than the questions to do well on a shelf

I've been told the same thing. If you're struggling with the shelves, then I would go ahead and seriously consider using UWorld-- this is what we were advised to do. I didn't buy a year of UWorld, but I also did really well on the shelves by using Case Files for most shelves. The big exception to this was for Medicine-- there I used MKSAP, which was fantastic.
