I should also point out its entirely possible to state a point without acting like a jerk.

Wasn't that long ago someone came to the psych board asking why we don't post on the psychiatry board more often so that was why I decided to venture over, now I understand why.

Bye folks, feel free to drop by the psychology board or PM me if you aren't a jackass."

Ollie123,

Thank you for proving the validity of my prior posts. It's been said that name callers resort to name calling because they lack the words with which to express themselves. Not only have you reinforced my earlier posts but you've also demonstrated the classic behavior of a name caller. It's painfully clear that you had to resort to using 2 inappropriate terms (jerk and jackass) when faced with the weakness of your arguments (if you can call them that).

It appears as though your name calling managed to get the original thread closed by the administrators. That's unfortunate. What is fortunate is that 4EverBluDevils has taken my advice to pursue a career in psychiatry.

When an objective reader looks beyond the name calling from both you and ratched, there really hasn't been any meaningful attempt to address my arguments with logic and reason. I guess that's why you're in a Psychology PhD program.

I'm glad you've decided to crawl back into the hole from which you came. It's a wise choice since it'll take you a year to earn what I earn in 4 months. I look forward to directing you in the future. 🙂

Psychiatry Wins!

Actually, you are making us all look like jerks. Please stop. Do you notice that no one is coming to your defense? It's not because your argument is so powerful it needs no allies.

Thanks for the comment, Dartos Vader. I'm not looking for allies, and my number of supporters means very little to me.

If an online forum is about ideas, then may the strongest ideas prevail. As mentioned in an earlier post, I'm simply calling things how I see them, regardless of how few are willing to support it.

This isn't about public relations. Even though people are shy about it, this is still the same advice that I would give behind closed doors to any friend or family member interested in mental health care.

I've worked in both fields.

I like Psychiatry better--but that's my choice. Some people like Psychology better.

Its up to the individual. This little war between our 2 fields can get at times stupid. Both our fields are supposed to be helping people as our first priority. If any competition happens, it should be done to better the patient (good game theory), instead of a turf-scorched earth-hate-war (bad game theory).

Being in psychiatry--I can tell you a heck of a lot of things I learned in psychology that isn't exactly being emphasized in our field that was helpful clinically.

Like what? (In the interest of "good game theory" of course 🙂 )

This is asinine. I would ask that any other psychologists who are reading this to please realize that the actions of a few of our number do not represent our feelings as a whole. A jerk is a jerk no matter what his career choice is, and a Troll? Well, we all know what they are.

Levels of addictiveness of street drugs--measured in actual units: has your program taught you that? Mine hasn't. Which are the drugs that are hardest to overcome addiction with--measured in actual units.

The actual experimental data and history of the theories of addiction--exactly how the nucleus accumbens became known as the addiction center.

Comparitive Psychology in animals, and their comparisions to human behavior (e.g. a female bird in its last year of fertility goes on a mating blitz--correlate that to perimenopause).

Evoluationary Psychology--for real--a real class where you get taught it academically with exams, not just an occasional lecture.

Sensory overload---how does it happen? Why does it happen?

Using real biofeedback in addiction to overcome conditioned physiological responses to drug addiction and other pathological psychological disorders such as anxiety.

Current leading theories of homosexuality--what causes it? Comparitive Psychology of sexual behavior in animals compared to humans.

Effects of testosterone exposure to female fetuses--occurs in male & female twins--the female twin can get affected by her twin brother's testosterone and develop certain male characteristic behaviors from it. Highly relevant in the area of gender disorder.

Handling in the rearing of children. Has your program taught you "Handling"? Most psychiatrists I know never heard of the term.

Anaclitic Depression--something which psychiatrists if they know about it only have a superficial knowledge of it. They dont' know how the theory of it came about.

Group Responsibility behavior vs Individual responsibility.

Various cases which rocked the psychological world such as the Kitty Genovese case.

I could go on...
