Hi! I was wondering if anyone has any insight about USUHS for the Public Health Service. I am currently deciding between these two (but still waiting on a few other interview results).
USUHS:
Pros--
ECU Brody:
Pros --
USUHS:
Pros--
- New city (DC) -- I've lived in NC for a while and would like to experience something new.
- Get paid during school (stipend = 82,000)
- PHS means that I would be working on indian health center reservations for the time that I serve, and I do want to help underserved populations
- No tuition (Really big for me)
- Get to move around a lot and experience different parts of the US
- Slightly better rank/reputation?
- more research?
- limitations to certain specialties (mostly primary care + Gen sure + radiology + anesthesia) and I am pretty interested in neurology, but flexible
- lower salary during service years
- no control over where I will be for 7 years (could be in Alaska and that might be too cold)
- living in rural settings
- Not sure how I would fit in with the culture, I don't have any family in the military and I never did ROTC
- slightly higher COA
- Must be in uniform all times on campus
ECU Brody:
Pros --
- In state, only 3 hrs from home
- cheap (22k a year tuition)
- Low cost of living
- strong match list
- Study body seems really welcoming
- can match whatever I want (although primary care focus)
- Don't love the small town location
- not much to do in Greenville
- party school undergrad reputation
- less research focus?
- students seem to match more within NC
