Hi all. I was told they are waiting to start a group e-mail list until the lists are finalized but I had a few questions maybe some of you could answer. Do we have a white coat ceremony? Do any of you have the UT health insurance and, if so, is it okay? Where can I get the best BBQ brisket sandwich, and who makes a good burrito? I'll be in Austin July 8 for a week and can't wait to explore. I also want to go to Schlitterbahn sometime in August 🙂 .

PS- Anyone interested in seeing touring Broadway shows like Wicked (Houston), Mama Mia (Austin), and Spamalot (Houston), let me know! How far away is Houston anyway?

I don't know much about UT health insurance, honestly I didn't even know they offered it, after 5 years there you think I'd know. Everyone says the best BBQ is Salt Lick, County Line, or Rudy's. If you like a big greasy burger there's Juan in a Million. (oops, I don't eat there so I was guessing I could have sworn they made hamburgers oh well) As far as burritos there's Chipolte for something quick, many people say they don't like Hula Hut but I think its good. If you're going down to Lake Austin you should stop by Mozart's for dessert and coffee. It has a great view of the lake and many people study there as well. Houston is about 3 hrs away depending on how fast you drive, most of the way the speed limit is 70 but you can do 80 and be pretty safe. Hope this helps!

Alrighty, where should I begin.. ah ok... White coat ceremony - the ceremony will be held I believe the first day of orientation. Insurance - I think this insurance is good if you don't already have coverage from your parents. BBQ brisket - try Rudy's BBQ and Salt Licks (20 mins from austin). Burrito - Chipotle, Freebirds. Houston is about 2 1/2 hrs away from Austin.

Juan in a Million doesn't serve burgers, they serve the Don Juan a huge breakfast burrito that costs a grand total of 3.57. It can replace two meals, I'm getting hungry writing about it. If you want a great burger in Austin, try Hut's Hamburgers on 6th St. They have about 20+ different kinds and on Wenesday night it is buy one get one free.

hi everybody,
when are they finalizing the list for emails for the FALL 2010 class? I have been getting mails from UT MAin, but i dont know abt that email list? thanks glitter

Hi Rach,

Def. go to schlitterbahn... its the best thing to do in the summer... or u can float down the Guadalupe as well. I went to Schli. last summer and had a blast.. however, be ready for summer rush.. try to pick a weekday --- maybe wedesday to avoid the long lines 🙂

And someone mentioned hula hut...I think its def. worth trying - go there late evening cuz then u can see all the lights on the deck... I always stop by there for some great mexican food ... yummy 🙂

I'm sure u've already been to freebirds before... but if not... I have to say they have the best burritos!

Hope u have a blast in Austin!!!

I'm not sure but I hope it is soon. It would make roommate searching a whole lot better!

Also, thanks for all the great suggestions. I am excited to try all these new things 😀 .

Did you get the letter from Kloessel regarding CARE?

I got the letter about CARE (the program where we work with senior citizens at ALFs) yesterday (mail takes a couple of extra days to get to me). They want to know where we will be living so they can assign us but I won't know until mid-July at the earliest.

You can put in the area you think you might be living which, if you're planning to live near campus, is central. That's what I did. Hope this helps.

For the Care Program, just give a general location of where you are going to be staying so Arlyn can match you up the best that he can.

You will definetely be hearing from the college soon, specifically UT-ASP, regarding your white coat, patch, nametag orders. Be looking for that.

I've been thinking the same thing, I was really glad I got the CARE letter to ease my worries.

umm stupid me. i just realized no one will be at my house for the next few weeks. are these documents time sensitive?

yes, the CARE document is due by July 7th (I'm pretty sure) It said ASAP

ahhhhhhhhh. i guess i'll call the school and give them my answer there...

so all we need to tell them is where we will be living?

I actually went to the school to turn mine in. You have to tell them in which pharmacy-related jobs you've been working, and where you've volunteered. You also have to give a general location on where you'll be living unless you know exactly. I would call and talk to Arlen Kloessel, he's really personable.

we get t shirts!!

i would think that white coats would need more info than just small/med/large. i am excited about t-shirts or white coats. i do think that the coats were cool though!

For those of you all already through P1: Do we get a good amount of notice about what textbooks we need? I like to buy online to save money but it takes a least a week to two weeks to get them. Other schools have let their P1s know so I was wondering if UT would soon too. Thanks.

The college will send you all an orientation packet with all the good stuff you all been waiting for such as info on organizations, books, etc. Regarding books, I say hold off on buying them until you figure out which one you really do need or want. I am pretty sure alot of the upperclassmen would love to sell you their books. A orientation welcome chair will soon send out information on mentor matching so all of you will have an upperclass mentor to help you with the transition into pharm school.

Thank goodness we have upperclassmen on here to help us with the questions 🙂 . It is getting close to moving time and I am a bit freaked out 😱 . Where am I going to put all my junk? I am thinking it is time for a garage sale!

I still haven't gotten a letter about the CARE program in the mail yet. When did everyone else get theirs? I guess I will give it a few more days and then call the school if it still doesn't come.

I got my CARE letter (in Florida) on 6/21. I am not sure what day it was psotmarked though.

Hey UT Dude! You seem to be a great "orientation leader", and give lots of info...I have been trying to figure out how much money in loans they'll give us for the first year. It takes them forever, and I have no idea how much I should spend on the rent, etc. Please let me know if you remember any of those numbers? Just give me the ~ digits, please 😀
Thanks!

I was so excited when I got the white coat order form : ). Anyone know what the t-shirts and polos on the order form look like? (Colors, etc.).

Have the student season tickets all been picked yet or is there an opportunity for new students to get season tickets? Thanks!

From what I hear, we will all be getting an email in early/mid July about season tickets in the pharmacy section. Everyone will have the chance to sign up then. 🙂

Go down the the UT-ASP section. The t-shirt is the orange one and they are redesigning the polo which as a longhorn logo on it (not sure what else, thats just what someone told me). 🙂

Kimn21, thanks for the info!
