Hey Everyone

I was trying to see if anyone has attended the UT Dallas PreHealth Post Bac program. I am based in Houston, so the nearest program I could find is in Dallas. Does anyone know
1. The matriculation rate into med school/dental school for the post bac students?
2. What are the requirements to apply to the program?(I have a under grad from India and a masters from United States)
3.Is it better to go into a post bac from North east like Bryn Mawr or Goucher?
3. For a dental school, is there any different prep required?

I dont know a ton about the program but I am thinking of going there for my post bac next year. UTD has a great reputation as being a very good research and natural science school. It looks like just about everyone who makes good grades and does well on the MCAT gets into med school (I do not know the exact numbers). Tuition would be much cheaper seeing as you are in Houston so you would get in state tuition. I was going to go to the Northeast to do one but decided to hold off and try to spend a little bit less money.

Also, This fall they are starting a certificate in Biomedical Sciences program that allows you to work towards something without leading you astray of the courses you need to take. From what I can tell it seems to be a good program. Hope this helps you.

But do "Post Bac" actually work as I have an under grad from India? Should I go for an under grad here again? Anyway, I called Baylor College of Dentistry, they said, unless I have an under grad from US or a Canadian school I couldn't apply. And most of the BS/MD or MS/DDS programs take only high school students!

Do you happen to know what are the requirements for admission?Have you heard about UNT's Masters program which is similar and Texas A&M accepts students from this program(UNT).

Does anyone have a link for the UT of dallas pre-med post bacc link ? I'd like to check out more informatin about the program. Is anyone else applying to this program ?

thanks for the link ! Just to throw it out there , but is anyone having a hard time figuring out what post bacc programs to apply to ?

I just took a look at the UT site and i noticed that one of the req's was that you had to have gained admission as a transfer s tudent ? Anyone know anything about this ? Im interested in applying but not quite sure i undertand what this is asking for ? (in order to get into the post-bacc program I'd have to apply as an undergrad ? )

If I understand this right, post bacc's are undergrad studies. You take either your pre-reqs or upper division classes or both. The only time you take graduate classes is if you apply for a graduate program or an SMP.

yeah, I believe the post bacc studies are for the undergrad. I was just confused by the UT website when it said i needed to apply as a transfer student... i guess maybe there will be a section where i will need to declare that im doing a post bacc or that doesnt matter ? ..

Yes, after you select "Transfer Student" you will select the "Certificate in Biomedical Science." It's rather odd, I have been accepted and will be classified as a Freshman, even though I already have a degree under my belt.

Anyone know how good of a program the UT dallas is ? Im thinkinga bout applying.

Thats the same for me as well. i only need a few more classes however , i figure applying into a fairly developed post bacc program where i can take extra classes to solidify my gpa might help. I like having a structured program rather than doing a 'by yourself' deal. Whats SMU ? I'm from california and would like to stay in california but seeing that most of the UC's have very low acceptances rates into their post baccs and typically look at minorities from disadvantaged backgrounds i think im gonna have to look out of state.
