Hi,

I recently met with a UT-San Antonio MD/PhD student when I was down in Texas visiting family. He really sold me on the program, but I'm a bit confused as to whether I should spend the money applying or not, because my stats are not great by any definition!

cGPA: 3.65
sGPA: 3.42
MCAT: Took it twice out of stupidity 2 years ago, never studies. This time around, I'm studying 4 months and my most recent diagnostics have pointed towards an average of 510.4, which is 94th percentile, equivalent to a 32-33.

As far as research goes, I have around 3 years of it, and a publication. I'm a teacher by training, and my research is based off of improving student performance in a course I TA'd for in College. Additionally, I attended a summer research program at Wake Forest, and attended worked in a Biology Lab for 2 years.

Should I try it?

You should contact the UTHSCSA MD-PhD director. He is a straight-up, helpful guy & will be glad to talk with you about the program and your chances for admission. (No, I am not the director.)
