I was wondering if anyone knows how the dean search is going at UTDB- Houston. I am trying to decide between Houston and San Antonio, and I think this could be an important aspect of my decision. If anyone has any other thoughts on these schools, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

Why would this make any difference in your decision? Is it that important to know who the dean is before you attend a school?

You mean you would reconsider SA if you found out the Dean is soon to retire?

The dean at UTDB has been interim since May 2009.

The previous dean was interim for two years before being named permanent dean in 2004. She decided to step down to pursue her passion in academics.

It appears that the current interim dean either doesn't want the job on a permanent basis or UTDB is looking for someone with a different vision for the school. All this at a time when UTDB is going through a major transition to a new building.

You have to wonder who is in charge at such a watershed period in UTDB's history and if the new dean will change the direction of UTDB or be a figurehead.

So yes, who the new dean will be could affect your dental school experience as well as how UTDB (and the value of your degree) will be perceived in the future.
