Trying to rank the two for the TMDSAS Match. I really can't find much directly comparing the two, so if current/past students can tell me their experiences at the schools, that would be super helpful!

I'm from Houston, but I've heard great things about San Antonio during the interview. I'd just like to see what the student experience is like, and any pros/cons each school has.

Thanks for your input!

Most people here are gonna say Houston because of the TMC. I just knew I didn’t wanna deal with the craziness of that med center and the traffic. Can’t go wrong with either. I’ll give houston the slight edge tho but they’re ranked pretty much the same. Houston prob wins in terms of city tho lol.

I would take McGovern over Long. They are more or less equivalent in most metrics with McGovern having slightly more perks. SA has mandatory attendance; McGovern does not. Neither are P/F. McGovern has the TMC. TMC is a nice perk, but I doubt you'll have any opportunities in Houston that you can't get in SA.

Both have good but basically equivalent match lists. Both have good but basically equal prestige.

I think it comes down to Houston vs SA tbh.

SA has cheaper CoL. Houston has more diversity.

Thats the thing about people who list the TMC as a perk for the Houston schools. Yeah sure its big and impressive when you see all the huge buildings but you are not going to be rotating at all of the hospitals in the TMC.

I give slight edge to Houston just because prefer the city to SA

Agreed. There are very few rotation sites that a med student would miss at any MD school tbh as long as the MD school has a decent group of affiliate hospitals. Other factors that separate other schools like research, match lists, prestige, etc. don't separate Long and McGovern.

Whichever place will make OP happier would be best. Some things to consider would be does being in less debt makes OP happier? Then probably SA cheaper CoL will be better. Does attendance bother you? Then McGovern would be better. Does traffic and overall city congestion bother you? SA would be better. OP can't go wrong with either though.
