UTMB seems to be one of the few programs that doesn't have much information on its website. Does anyone have any info on the call schedule for R1,2,3,4 years? As a med student the term "call" gets confusing so by "call" I mean working weekends (weekend call?), 5pm-10pm evening coverage (short call?) and overnight/night float. I know some residencies are call-heavy while some are not.

I don't believe the clinical experience is as extensive, varies and strong as the other houston programs. At least pgy1 and 2 , you may not get as wide a clinical experience. As a utmb med student you do get the opportunity to do correctional psychiatry. Some of the patients are in death row.

call is pretty light- only the first 2 years and it's home call (intern yr 100%, I believe 2nd yr too) it's 1x/month for intern year- first 2 months/calls you have a backup 2nd year. eventually you'll be backup, too. You just hold the pager that week and answer new calls later that day, give orders and see them next day, split bw everyone (the weekend you care for all pt though)...so since it's 8 mo of psych, so maybe about 5 weeks of call and 5 being backup. maybe more days or less depending on when you rotate, but that's the first year. otherwise if you're not on call, M-F, usually done by 2 or so, depending on notes and stuff. for the 4mo medicine, you can do peds outpt or IM or a mix of both- outpt has no call, IM does, probably similar to medicine. They're all pretty friendly so I'm sure they wouldn't mind if you contact them.
