I'm debating Univ of oklahoma vs utmb to rank higher for gas. Seems like both programs have pretty nice intern years but I'm not too sure about pg2-4. UTMB seems to work their residents a lot with their call schedule (4-5 24s a month) vs OU doing 2ish a month and most of them are night floats. Also seems like utmb's rotations are all over the place vs OU is localized right in okc. But for some reason UTMB is well known and their residents matching into fellowships and their residents seem to say that their program is "laid back"

not entirely true. I don't know about you but I dont feel like being shipped to a different city for my peds and cardiac month. This is an issue with UTMB and not with OU. My reasons for having a decent call schedule is for a personal family issue which I dont want to discuss here. I'm just asking about the differences in programs and not asking to be judged

Personally, I liked getting out of the hospital for a month or two at a time and going to a different place. Broke the monotony of working in one place for several years (and working in the same ORs does become monotonous in my opinion), and it's very good to see how other places do things. I actually elected for another away at Methodist and tried to get to the ambulatory center in Webster my CA-3 year as much as possible.

Every hospital/institution has a fingerprint on how they do anesthesia. No one is alike. Everyone may not feel that way, but as for the "away rotations" at Methodist and Driscoll, I liked them.
