Asking this question for my SO who I'm couples matching with (I'm IM). I have a relatively good opinion of UVa, but my SO has not made up her mind regarding peds residencies. Any advice would be appreciated among these three programs.

The Peds program at UVA is really not the same caliber as the IM program, but it's not bad. It's for a person who is more cerebral, who learns more by reading, rather than doing, because while they do get referrals from all over, and they are the only (I think) cardiac transplant center in the state, their local population is much more rural, so they don't see a high volume of bread and butter stuff (or anything, really, but more volume in specialties since they cover most of southwest Virginia).

That said, I love the faculty, and there are a lot of really neat opportunities for the residents (Camp, Semester at Sea, etc).

I enjoyed my interview at UVA a few years ago but as mentioned before they don't have the volume that some other places have. That said the residents there that I spoke with seemed really happy and it was ranked pretty high on my list

Emory is a very busy program and I got the impression that the residents were stretched pretty thin. I love the city of Atlanta but of the 3 places you listed it will have highest cost of living (though not horrible). I felt this would be an ideal place to do a fellowship but wasn't convinced the residency experience would be the best for me.
