Anyone have any observations about UVA that they wouldn't mind sharing. I loved it when I interviewed, but was a little iffy about it after my second look mostly because I didn't find the residents to be all that friendly. I know that they say that they are a tight knit family, and I wonder if that is true or not? Any opinions would be appreciated. My dean requires that our ROL be in by monday and this is really hanging mine up.

Stephanieukmed...

I thought that UVA had a great program overall. However, I do agree with you about the residents. At the pre-interview dinner many of the residents attended and were very cordial and friendly. However, when I tried to speak with them the next day during the actual interview and tour...they either blew me off or were very short. This was particularly the case with most of the upper level residents. I spoke with a couple of other interviewees later that day and they had the same feeling. Also, on another thread someone mentioned the CREOG clearinghouse and open residency positions....it looks like one of the interns left the program for "personal reasons." Don't know what this means.

But like I said above...I think that overall they have a solid program with great faculty. I particularly liked their Gyn Onc division. They do a ton of research, are well respected across the country, and have matched one resident in Onc the last 3 or 4 years.

I hope this helps. Good luck with finishing up your ROL. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks, I'm glad it wasn't just me. I agree the program is solid, and I just love their Onc division.
As for the resident that is leaving. I heard about that when I went back, it is an intern whose fiance matched at Northwestern, and they really just couldn't stand being apart anymore so when a spot openned up there she took it.

Thanks again. How much does it suck to have to have the ROL in 10 days early!
