If you check the sfmatch site, you'll notice there are very few strictly uveitis-related fellowships. There are medical and surgical retina fellowships that also have a strong focus on uveitis, thus giving you broader training and more marketability. I cannot speak specifically to the competitiveness of the uveitis fellowships, but would suspect that many applicants look toward the medical or surgical retina fellowships where they will train under known experts in uveitis, rather than pursuing a uveitis fellowship. I've also heard of people doing a second fellowship in uveitis, say after a retina fellowship. Anyone have better insight into this?
