Did anyone get accepted to both UW an UoP in the past and had to make a decision. It's pretty tough, because they are both such good schools for their own reasons. I'v got friends at both who are absolutely in love with their respective schools, but I was curious if anyone had to decide between the two or knows of anyone who has that could provide some perspective. Money is obviously a huge factor and weighs heavily towards UW. I'm a WA resident. Anyone with any insight? You can post here or send me a PM. Thanks.

Congratulations! As a WA resident, I would go with UW. UW offers residents a very nice tuition rate, presently less than $16,000 a year for a D1 and D2 and slightly over $20,000 a year for D3 and D4 comparing this to UOP's tuition of $49,000 for a D1 increasing to close to $55,000 for a D4. UW is a financial bargain. UW also has a much smaller class size. Only 55 students matriculate every year, if that makes a difference to you. I would consider it a plus. They also have about 230 dental chairs in the school. So, finding a chair for your patients at UW should not be a problem. Both UW and UOP are very good schools. Good luck with your decision. Congratulations again!

Thank you Lesley for your response. From your many posts it seems as though you really try to stress the importance of keeping debt to a minimum, and for good reason. Each dental school will allow the opportunity, with enough dedication and desire, to become an established dentist. We (as pre-dents) must be realistic in our visions, but we should also be true to ourselves, whatever that might entail ..I'm starting to realize that the economics of attending UW are hard to pass up. Plus it is a very good school in regards to academics, clinical skills and aptitude, and ability to specialize should I decide to entertain the possibility.

I would think it would be very difficult to pass up UW. Economics, class size, facility, all pluses, in my opinion, in the UW column. But I agree, in the end everyone has to be true to themselves. Listen to and trust yourself. You hold the answers to your questions. sumluck, you will do well wherever you go. Very best wishes

I was in your exact position 2 years ago (currently a second year at UW). At this point, looking back I can say that I have no regrets about choosing UW (but I think I would have also had an awesome experience at UOP). I did undergrad at UW and my family lives close to Seattle. In the end I chose UW because 1) cost of education AND living 2) close to home 3) proximity to home 4) no dress code 5) I had heard they prepare you well for boards 6) small class size 7) breaks and vacations = less stress and probably some other reasons that I can't think of at this moment. That is not to put down UOP in any respect, I absolutely loved it at my interview. UW was just a better fit for me and I have loved every bit of it so far...except maybe next week's finals (HA HA)! If you have any questions at all, feel free to email me at [email protected] since I rarely check SDN. Good luck and congrats on getting in to two very fine schools!
