Hi, this is my first post so be gentle. Has anyone heard anything from UW Madison about acceptance/rejection/wait-list? I interviewed there in Oct. and haven't heard from them since. I called and the director told me the committee was meeting to review my app. That was about 2 weeks ago and still nothing. Should I be worried? Thanks a bunch!
Applicants: in-state 573, interviewed 475, in class, 126*
out-of-state, 1447, interviewed 200, in class 17*
*More would have been offered places; see below.
As of 1998, over 80% of those interviewed are offered places. Of 626 in-staters with complete files, 219 were accepted, 129 enrolled. Of 226 out-of-staters with complete files, 35 were accepted, 14 enrolled.
Class is usually filled by April; then, candidates are placed on a wait-list. After receiving a wait-list letter, call the Admissions Office regarding the likelihood of acceptance. Those wait-listed should not submit additional information; the files will not be reviewed again. Greatest movement from wait-list from May to July with a number being accepted after June 15.
There appears to be a Medical Scholars Program which I have no information about. Up to 50 places may be reserved for those participating.
Typically, 90% of entering students are Wisconisn residents.
I got an acceptance to the MSTP program a few days ago. But, I imagine that the timing is a little different, although I think it still requires that the MD adcom meet and OK it.
Each year Madison publishes a very detailed report on the stats of the class most recently admitted. It includes number of applicants, including AMCAS apps, completed apps by in-state vs. out-of-state. For each of these categories, average GPAs (science vs. non-science) and MCATs are given. This is freely distributed. Just
call and ask.
The Med Scholars program is "high school-to-MD" program. Most recently about 40 students. There are some requirements (grade maintenance) and a few choose to go elsewhere for med school, but most complete the program. This effectively means about 40 less spots, because 40 of the published "acceptances" are actually Med Scholars who are continuing into med school. The Med Scholars program is only for Wisconsin HS seniors.
The most recent person I talked to indicated she received a letter (waitlist) approximately 3 weeks after her interview at UW-Madison.
