School 1: UW
OOS
Pros:

• Good research programs
• Good for specialization
• Top program
• Small class size (63)

Cons:

• Not sure how well they prepare students for general practice as I’m not 100% sure I want to specialize yet
• Moving away from family and friends

School 2: MW AZ
*IS
Pros:

• Newest technology
• Prepares students very well for general practice
• Close to family and friends

Cons:

• Not good for specialization
• 5k more expensive than UW
• Large class size (140)

Summary:
I feel very conflicted about which to choose. Midwestern is close to my friends and family and prepares students very well for general practice. UW is a top program in the country I feel would give be a better shot at specializing. The only problem is that I don’t know if I want to specialize yet. Both programs cost roughly the same.

I think any "top program" should give you opportunities to specialize or not. Also, they are the WICHE-designated dental school, so there are many opportunities for community/rural dentistry, so general shouldn't be a problem. Have you made your school visit?

It depends how you like the small class size, but UW is a huge university. Granted, if Midwestern is close to home and you want to practice in Arizona, it's not a bad option either. I'm partial to small class sizes, but as long as there is a good ratio of proctors to students in clinic, you should be in a good space.

It depends how you like the small class size, but UW is a huge university. Granted, if Midwestern is close to home and you want to practice in Arizona, it's not a bad option either. Not yet, there is a “second look” tour on January 10th, so I will attend that.

Sorry for replying so late. I believe it is 20k over 4 years. I asked this earlier, but do you think UW is still worth it over MW AZ if I don’t end up specializing?
