Hi All,

Looking for some advice/thoughts on my situation. In the last week, I completed a phone interview for a great clinical psychologist position at a VA in a very desirable (for me at least) area. At the end of the interview the interviewers stated that I had made it to the second round and they would like for me to fly out for an in-person interview.

Has anyone had experience with the second round interviews? Are they similar to the Performance Based phone interviews? Are second round interviews common?

Recently I was offered a VA position at another VA (which I turned down for various reasons), but there was only one round of interviews before HR called so I am a bit at a loss about the second round thing.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hard for me to say for sure but I would guess that you're competing with no more than a 1/2-dozen other applicants for the position at this point, probably less.

Every VA is the same and yet very different! Your experience in the hiring process is very normal and sounds promising. Good luck on the 2nd round. You have much more control over this process than internship or postdocs so enjoy the process (as much as can be expected).

Every VA is the same and yet very different!.

You got that right!

My PBI VA interviews have run the gamut from robotic, to down right folksy informal chats. I was just offered a staff position after a one 20 minute phone interview. Others told me upfront that they will have 3 rounds (2 phone, 1 in-person). I also just had a rural VA call me and ask if I was still interested in position that I didn't even actually appply for (I interviewed for a different position with them like 5 months ago and never heard back)!
