I'll keep my fingers crossed for ya. Sucks how they're making you agonize like that.

good luck premed2!!! I'm in the same boat as you...waiting around for vandy. When did you interview? I interviewed on the 25th of sept, so i imagine i am still a ways down. Anyway, best of luck to you; keep us posted!! 🙂

I wouldn't sweat it too much, when my buddy got into Vandy a few years ago they lost his letter and didn't call him. He found out when he recieved his aid package in the mail and he called to find out why he recieved an aid package. So anyway they aren't necessarily going to call, be patient it's still early.

I think they read this bulletin board and decide to discourage applicants from calling and *accidentally* finding out an acceptance 😀

There's always tomorrow!

I am in the same situation as you premed2. I called them and they said that a decision on my file has been made and they wouldn't tell me. I didn't get a call from the dean either. I interviewed there on the last week of august. So I am just waiting for the mail to go, hopefully it will come today with good news.

so NOBODY got an acceptance call on Oct. 17th!?? Thats good news for all of us who interviewed early!! Maybe the dean just wasnt there that day...hopefully I'll get in!! Has anyone gotten waitlisted at Vandy yet?

I haven't heard a word from Vandy yet.

On a happier note Kill Bill is a wonderful movie!!

Has anybody who interviewed at vandy mid-september or after got an acceptance already? I interviewed on the 18th... and wasn't sure if it'd be too early to call them. Thanks. 😀

i guess u can call them on monday since it will be four weeks since u had an inerview at Vanday and they said decision will be made 4-6 weeks after the interview day. Good luck to you!

bump bump bump....im waiting for my vandy acceptance letter (hopefully!!)

Last night I found out that I got waitlisted at Vanderbilt. 🙁 I did't get a call and I just got the mail. I hope for those who didnt get a call, will get an acceptance letter instead of waitlist. Good luck guys!

sorry taehong...but maybe you will get off the waitlist! would you mind telling me what date your letter was dated? im assuming it was the 16th...but id be curious because i went to committe on the 17th. good luck!

You are right premed2, it was sent on the 16th and it arrived to my house on the 18th. Hope you get good news.

BUMP

Anyone get any love from Vandy in the mail today? I'm still waiting for snail mail news.

I called Vandy today to check whether they had reached a decision on my file, but it turns out that they haven't even set a date to review my file. The lady told me it'd take at least three more weeks... I interviewed on the 18th of Sept... so I guess there's a lot more waiting to do.... 🙄

got waitlisted....sucks.

I interviewed in really early Sept and got nothing from them in the mail today. Maybe tomorrow.?.

I met a girl at my Miami interview on friday (10/17) who apparently was accepted that wednesday or thursday..

Ahh, that sucks. I interviewed in late September too and was kind of hoping to hear sooner than that. 🙁

Hmm, it seems like the vast majority of us are either accepted or waitlisted. (I'm on the latter, as I just found out). But, it seems like that there are a lot more waitlists than acceptances. From another thread, I heard that Vandy accepts only 10% of interviewees outright, waitlists 80% of them, and rejects 10% of them. Then from another thread, someone said that about 50% of the first-year class at Vandy comprised people originally waitlisted.

I'd be interested in knowing what the deal is with the waitlist. I've been told that there's not much movement on it, but if 50% of the entering class came from the waitlist, then that's something quite different. Maybe it doesn't move until near the May 15th deadline?

Congrats to those who were accepted! For me, the waitlist news was somewhat discouraging, but somewhat encouraging in a way. Sigh.....have to postpone my "1st acceptance" celebration with my family. 🙁 Then on the other hand, I got more interviews to look forward to and hopefully some big fat envelopes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for me and all SDNers who have yet to receive a first acceptance.

I am a MS4 at Vandy. 2 of my classmates sit in on the committee meetings. From what they told me, the class doesn't make up of 50% waitlist. It's more like 15-20%. Given the class size is 104, that translate into 15-20 people. But that doesn't mean that they only take 15-20 people as they lose their waitlists as well. I would estimate 30 or so will eventually come off waitlist in a given year.

According to people in my class who were wait-listed and later admitted, wait-list will not move until the May deadline. Then, from their accumulated pool of maybe 300 waitlists they will narrow it down to maybe 70-80 or so (the rest get their file deactivated which is a polite way to say rejected), then they will move their wait-list from there.

Anyone get any good news from Vandy in the mail today who didn't get a phone call already?

Vandy accepts 280 people for a class of 104. So maybe 50-60 of them are from waitlist.

Total: 3,392 784 280 104

I remember the tour guide told us that if you're waitlisted, the committee looks back at your file at every meeting they have and can accept you at a 2nd, 3rd etc meeting. Since it's rolling admissions you have a good chance of being admitted if you applied early, even off a waitlist.

They definitely straight off accept more than 104 (Like 180-200?), expecting many will attend school elsewhere. If the total number of remaining acceptees fall below 104, then they start pulling people off from waitlist

Hmm, that's very interesting. I was never told that when I came to Vandy for my interview. I really hope what you said is true for this application cycle, because I was told that waitlisters may not hear from the school for some time. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. How often do members of the admissions committee meet?
