hi there,
Finally the MCAT score is in. I got 7-12-12. My GPA is 3.96 from a non-competitive college. So far I have 120 hours volunteering in hospital, 200 hours shadowing doctors. I'm also involved in lots of campus activities. I really really want to get into Vanderbilt. But my MCAT, especially verbal score, is a little low for Vandy. I am not considering retaking it because I don't think I can do any better. Is there anybody with similar stats that got in Vandy? i know stats are not everthing but I just want to have some ideas. Thank you so much for the time.

Sorry to break it to you, but I seriously doubt it. There is always exceptions, but that 7 is gonna leave you dead in the water, unless you have some sort of extenuating circumstances. You could apply anyway (you never know), but I suggest you set your sights on an equally good though perhaps less prestigious public or private institution.

Hey, don't let it get you down. Write a great essay, and if you get an interview, dazzle them with articulate clever statements. A 7 verbal won't kill you, i shouldn't think. Go for it, obviously. your GPA is good enought that your still good MCAT won't be that carefully scrutinized. I think you'll do fine. Also, i retook the MCAT and increased my verbal score by 6 points! I didn't even do THAT much between tests, just more practice. But, i guess i wouldn't reccomend that for you. Look, you'll do great, even if you don't get in there, you might find a school you like even better when interviewing. My preferance changed, and i got in too!

Relax,

i dont know about vandy....however I do know that at alot of schools the verbal MCAT is a first weedout (the weeding done on computer) followed by MCAT composite then GPA. Thus there is a possibility that your numbers won't clear the computer. Plus I'm relatively sure that Vanderbilt is a tough school to get into without a handicap

Its not impossible, I'm headed to Vandy in the fall, with 10,10,10 MCAT, and a 3.8 GPA, if you're a well rounded applicant, they'll take notice.

Something to keep in mind about VU is they think of themselves as a top 10 school, even though they're not. They're gunning for the same apps as Duke etc. Which means they're looking for picturesque scores. Also keep in mind they wind up pulling a lot of people from the wait list, because they're giving first spots to people who will eventually choose Duke, or Hopkins or wherever
