Happy Holidays! I hope everyone's break is going well. I have a few questions, I appreciate any input. Thank you guys!

1.) I got a dentist mentor list in the area from my university's dental school. Is it appropriate to ask a dentist the first time meeting him/her if I can shadow him after getting advice and asking questions? I don't live near the dentist I went to growing up, and I need to get hours. How did you guys get hours if you went away for school?

2.) For those who have used Chad's videos, is it worth paying $25 to use the videos for Organic Chem II class? What are some other free sites that offer videos/notes?

3.) For volunteering hours, what is the best place/setting? Is it worth volunteering at a hospital if I'm not getting dental related experience? Also, how many hours should I have minimum?

4.) How much does a high DAT score really make up for a below average GPA? I'm considering high DAT 20+ and a below average GPA around 3.4. Along with this, how much is made up with an upward trend of 3 semesters with a high DAT(20+)?

5.) Would a lor from a dental school professor greatly appeal to other dental schools?

6.) Lastly I'll take any advice for taking Bio 2 and Orgo 2 in the same semester!

1. Yes, its totally ok to ask him. If he says no, ask him if he has any dentist who is willing to let you shadow.

2. Chad is worth it. Beside chad, check out khanacademy, youtube.

3. For volunteering, do what you love to do. You dont have to do dental related volunteer. Volunteering hours should be 40+. Shadowing is also about 40+.

5) definitely, especially for that particular school.

6)go for it. I took physics, bio, and ochem all with lab all in one semester with volunteer and research and I managed to get through. If you believe in yourself you can achieve it.

4. Hard to say... probably varies per school/adcom

5. Dunno. I had two dentists that are also profs co write a letter for me... Who knows how beneficial that would be over a not academic dentist. It won't hurt though. 🙂

6. Study you butt off! haha
