Someone fill me in on this test... I was under the impression that some schools required it. However, it seems that none of the schools I've been looking at do. And I also can't seem to find any info about the test even being given currently...😳

I believe the VCAT was discontinued several years ago, so no vet schools should currently require it.

you take the GRE instead 🙂

Yes, taking the GRE has been in the plan all along (that's getting ready to happen--I'm studying for it right now). I was just under the impression for some reason that I would need to take the VCAT as well (which, since I am also taking the GRE Biology Subject Test, would have added a big burden and less time spent with my husband and kids ;-) ) . I think what confused me was that some undergraduate college websites haven't updated their websites (GAH! If it's been several years, these schools are waaay behind!). I did a simple google search, and these sites popped up. I guess the reason for them popping up near the top is because there isn't much mention of the test anywhere else.

Indeed. The VCAT's been gone awhile now. The schools still advocating the VCAT need to "get with the program". No pun intended.

I'm not exactly sure when the VCAT was done, but many of the schools probably still had it as an option because they will accept scores from tests that are 5-6 years old. So, someone that may have taken the VCAT that long ago may have scores they can use if they are now reapplying. I think that the time is pretty much coming to a close though when those scores would be accepted (if it hasn't already), and the schools should probably update their websites.

The VCAT was discontinued in April 2003, so some schools will still take it because it's only(?) 4 years old.

Although its been discontinued, my advisor still asked me what my scores were in an attempt to get an idea of what schools I should consider... Clearly, he was not of much help in the process.
