VCOM, WVU in top 10 medical schools that lead to residencies

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Its great they are on there, but there are several confounders.

1) only 26 out of 170 actually gave placement data: whose to say how the ranks would change if you add all 170 to the mix.
2) first choice of residency is relative: If Stanford student's top choice MGH and a VCOM students top choice Larkin hospital, which would be easier to match into?
3) how many students have made it from MS-1 to matching? Drop out or failure rates can lead places showing better placements than other (if these student were still around they would plummet the first choice percentage).

This applies to both MD and DO schools on that list.

I can promise you that VCOM is not placing ~90% of their students into their first choice residency. that number is completely made up by either US News or VCOM's administration (more likely).

US News used to state that 90+ percent of graduates from my school matched into their first choice residency program. despite this, at least 10% of my class scrambled/SOAPed this year. last year was no different for my school.

yet my school's administration continues to feed this bull**** statistic to applicants.
