Hi Everyone-
I have an upcoming VCU interview, and was wondering if anybody has insight into what you think are the unique advantages to this school? I have gone through the website and haven't found anything in particular that stands out.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks

Couple of plusses I found in VCU:

1) One of the faculty (Costanzo?) actually writes Board questions. They have an excellent board prep. system.

2) Huge city hospital, like 4th largest teaching hospital in the nation I believe. With this comes a top 20 trauma center and ofcourse some cases you won't see at some other places.

3) The school hooks the students up with a $1500 bar tab after exams. C'mon, who could ask for more???

There isn't much in the way of truly unique. Med schools are just different amalgams of the same basic components. Preclinical years are solid; Costanzo writes the BRS and STARS physiology books. They're dumping mucho dinero into new facilities: Massey Cancer Center expansion, new ICU tower, refurbished student center, new SOM building in the works, etc. I thought the best things about the place were 1. the huge indigent patient population, and 2. the very hands-on nature of the clinical training that having a huge indigent patient population affords.

The Thai Cabin lunch cart was pretty badass, also.
