Thought I'd start a thread for all of us kids applying to VCU/MCV. I'm an out of stater still waiting for an e-mail. Do you think they maybe haven't gotten to my application yet? Am I just being impatient/paranoid? Feel free to throw in any other VCU related comments and discussion.

Well if anyone should be worried it's me. I'm an in-stater and I still have gotten no love. I think they might be screening in batches.

Good Luck

Hi,

I'm an out-of-stater too and got an email on July 22nd directing me to the application website. It tells you then whether or not you were chosen to proceed with the secondary. It says that 2,000 out of 4,000 applicants are asked to submit a secondary. The only weird thing about the secondary is that they want a 300 word handwritten essay.

I think MCV rules 😀

Other than that, waiting for the secondary...

VA resident, VCU undergrad

I am an out-of-stater and received an email a few days ago directing me to the website which indicated that the decision to send me a secondary would be made after the receipt of my new MCAT scores.

Hey, Gold&Black. I love MCV too, but I'm a U of R student. I think I would fit in more at VCU rather than the bubble of U of R...I don't exactly fit the conservative, collar flipping, pink pants wearing profile of every UR guy. Point is, I love Richmond, but want to get out of the bubble!

Haha...U of R is definitely a bubble...but a nice place for VCU and MCV'ers to study 🙂 If you're not a U of R type then you'll do fine at MCV...180 seats makes for a pretty diverse crowd.

I really want to finish my secondary and get it over with...

so gold&black - ive got to ask, does your signature note MCV '09 because youre planning on going there or because you're on the up-and-up of the application process?

Figured this would come up sooner or later (and never thought to remove the designation). I'm in VCU's 8-year BS/MD program. Kids who are in the program who take their MCATs are allowed to apply out. I also need to shop around for financial aid purposes (I'm putting myself through school) and so I needed to apply out in order to try to reduce the horrific burden of med school tuition. So...yea, my sig is correct in the sense that, as of right now, I'm a student in MCV's class of 2009.

Random, random explanations -- and I was afraid to say this because I thought I'd get flamed for applying even though I have a seat. But...be kind...I'm in limbo as well cause my financial situation is dependent on my apps this cycle 🙁

its funny, i wouldnt trade my undergraduate experience at a small liberal arts school for anything, but i cant help but look back and wish i had applied to some of those 8 yr programs.... haha
good luck with the f.a.! 🙂

Hey, all. No e-mail yet, but I tried to log into the application status web page and voila! Application recieved the 23rd. If you haven't gotten an e-mail yet try their app status log in just to make sure they got your application. Peace

I didn't get an email saying that they received my primary. I just got the email directing me to the secondary. I don't know why they would do it differently for some people but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hey thanks for the heads up. I checked it out and they received my AMCAS application on 7/22/04 and I never received the email though.

Any chance I could have ur seat in the 2009 class????

I got a follow-up email a week after they received my primary to let me know that my application is on hold until the August mcat scores became available.

When were you guys verified/processed? I still haven't received anything from VCU/MCV. Plus, I tried logging in, and I wasn't allowed to. So I guess they haven't even received my AMCAS yet?

I got the invitation for the secondary. What are you guys thinking about for the 200-word essay? I would love to at least partially re-use one I've already written. Do you think it should be about why we want to go to VCU? Thanks

haha, no! that's all i got 🙂

The secondary is 200 words on whatever you want. MCV like different experiences...write about a family experience or a trip abroad or your favorite sports team or something.

Also on the secondary is "a few sentences" on what you see yourself as a physician doing in 10 years -- same question as UVa, so I used my answer for that secondary.

yayyy secondary recycling

Ames -- keep yo head up 🙂

U of R is a nice bubble. I just recently graduated from U of R and I did the post bacc year at MCV. MCV is such a nightmare compared to U of R. Don't take anything for granted at UR: it is such an amazing place and you are going to miss it when you're gone. Hey Boner, did you graduate?

HEY!!! MCV is not a nightmare :scared: it's pleasantly urban...and it's got nice views of the state capitol? 😛
