I know some people have heard good news from ODU and VCU as of late, but I was wondering if anyone has heard any bad news from them! I haven't heard anything from either school yet.
Keeping my fingers crossed!

I applied to VCU last cycle and I did not get my rejection letter until mid March. Stay optimistic!!

ODU will likely be giving out acceptances/rejections in January/Feb... I'm hoping this is the case bc I am updating my pGPA this week

From what I understand, there are multiple rounds of acceptances. December being the first round. The accepted students will have around a month or so to accept or decline the offer and pay the seat fee. If there are any available spots left, the second round applicants will be notified and so on to fill the class. From last cycle it looked like both ODU and VCU had wait lists. Also, remember applicants can hold multiple seats at different schools. So stay optimistic until you receive the final decision from each school! I have my heart set on VCU due to being a Richmond native! Good Luck everyone!!

Thanks for the helpful information! Why do you think you were rejected last cycle?
I was told my verbal GRE score was low and I was "red flagged" for taking 4 of my prerequisites at a community college after I graduated from JMU. However, I was told the CC classes were okay if they were taken after I had my undergrad degree. I guess that wasn't the case though...

hm... do you think the same would apply for ODU? I actually have a question about pre-reqs at CC that I hope you could help me with.

So far, I have retaken A&P I and II (both As), Physics I (A) & II (Spring 2016) at a CC bc it is far cheaper to do so and I am trying to keep expenses low (obviously).
I am also planning on taking graduate classes at GMU to further progress in my Master's degree, so my question is, should I not disclose that I plan to take more classes at GMU for my graduate program if I am still going to be taking Physics II at a CC?

When I went to ODU for an information session a professor did mention that they would prefer prerequisites to be taken at a 4 year. But since I was just accepted, I suppose if other parts of your application are strong it doesn't matter. If I was in your position I would disclose the Graduate classes because it shows that you are taking a bigger course load while finishing your prerequisites.

Well that's super unfortunate because I retook (so even worse) 4 pre-reqs at a CC level, and my verbal is around the same as yours. Why do you think they accepted you this year?

I only applied to VCU last cycle. So far I have been accepted to ODU and Radford but haven't heard from VCU for this cycle.

@Kona7 have you been working after undergrad? This discourages me, too, because I've been out of school since 2008 so all of my pre-requisites are at community college! I was told at an open house that that was "totally acceptable!" but now I'm worried.

I have been working as a tech in an outpatient clinic since I graduated and even got certified in the functional movement system level 1 to show my dedication to the profession.

can you explain a little about that functional movement system? that sounds interesting and useful... I looked online and says there is a seminar in my area April 2016

To keep costs low I actually did the FMS level 1 certification online!

The Functional Movement Screen is a 7 point test that looks at movement patterns that are key to functional movement. The screen helps identify functional limitations and asymmetries that can predispose a person to injury, and reduce the effects of functional training. An emphasis is placed on mobility and stability, which are the foundations of functional movement.

The screen is used to pinpoint weak links in the client’s movement pattern. Once these weak links have been identified, corrective exercises are assigned to alleviate them. The goal of the screen is to improve upon the athletes’ performance and prevent the risk of future injury.

I currently work at an All-star competitive cheer gym and have had the opportunity to screen around 45 athletes and truly believe in FMS! The course itself online is a little expensive on my current income, but I saved money by finding a coupon online and having my boyfriend build the test board for me. FMS is being utilized more and more in sports, gyms and PT clinics. The certification is definitely worth having 🙂 Also, check out Grey Cook's ( FMS founder) book, Movement! I hope that gave you some quality background information on FMS.

that's great, thanks! i'll have to look into that

Hey! For those that have been accepted into ODU, ODU doesn't require psychology with lab right?

I don't believe the lab is a requirement for the required psych courses. Check the PTCAS website and look at ODU's prerequisite requirements just to make sure though!

Ok, yeah that is what I thought. For some reason my acceptance letter says I didn't complete psych with a lab, so hopefully it was a mistake! Thanks Kona🙂

We should change the name of this discussion to VCU and ODU hopefuls!!

when did you get your acceptance letter? was it via email or snail mail? do you mind sharing your stats? thanks 🙂

I had an issue with my letter too. It said that I hadn't completed hours in an "other" setting, but I've done 60 hours with pediatrics so I'm not sure what that's about.

Krissy, I got my letter yesterday, but it was sent on Dec. 17 via snail mail.
Undergrad GPa: 3.68
Science GPA 3.6 something
like 275 hours in 4 different settings

Coach_T, Yeah, I emailed them yesterday, but no reply yet. There is no lab required for psych right? Or am i tripping? lol.

Is pediatrics the only setting you observed? I remember reading on either PTCAS or ODU's DPT website that they required 80 hours in multiple settings. Double check both websites to be sure!

My hours were low but I did have 43 outpatient and 20 at a urology clinic in addition to the pediatrics so I thought that I was fine, but I guess I'll see once I hear back from them. I'll definitely have to double-check though!

And I'm pretty sure psych with a lab wasn't a requirement; I took a psych research methods class that had a lab with it, but none of my other psych classes had labs. Hopefully we hear back soon!

Has anyone heard from VCU recently?

Just want to throw it out there that as of yesterday, VCU's class for the upcoming summer is still not completely full. Don't lose hope!! 🙂

So what if I have not heard anything back from them? Should I feel nervous?
