To keep costs low I actually did the FMS level 1 certification online!
The Functional Movement Screen is a 7 point test that looks at movement patterns that are key to functional movement. The screen helps identify functional limitations and asymmetries that can predispose a person to injury, and reduce the effects of functional training. An emphasis is placed on mobility and stability, which are the foundations of functional movement.
The screen is used to pinpoint weak links in the client’s movement pattern. Once these weak links have been identified, corrective exercises are assigned to alleviate them. The goal of the screen is to improve upon the athletes’ performance and prevent the risk of future injury.
I currently work at an All-star competitive cheer gym and have had the opportunity to screen around 45 athletes and truly believe in FMS! The course itself online is a little expensive on my current income, but I saved money by finding a coupon online and having my boyfriend build the test board for me. FMS is being utilized more and more in sports, gyms and PT clinics. The certification is definitely worth having 🙂 Also, check out Grey Cook's ( FMS founder) book, Movement! I hope that gave you some quality background information on FMS.
