I have a hypothesis about the VCU priority score and the messages that are displayed on your status page. From what I gather there are three priority scores assigned based upon ones application either 1,2 or 3. In addition there are three messages one can receive on their status page.
Now Deez4life stated the following " The file reviewer assigns a 1, 2, 3, or "reject" Priority Score to your file on the first go through. They interview all the 1's, fewer 2's, and rarely 3's as they come up."
Therefore it is my belief that the below message/score assignment is how it works. I received message three last year and never received an interview, plus I have read of no one having this message and then later being invited. If Deez4life's statement rings true then it makes sense because in message two is says they are unable to interview all candidates with your priority score, which would be a score of 2.
Message one Priority Score=1
"You have been invited for an interview" (I'm not exactly sure what the message states because I have not received this yet)
Message two Priority score=2
"The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we may be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to, you will be notified by e-mail."
Message three Priority score=3
"The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."
