VCU (in-state) vs MUSC (out-of-state)

VCU (in-state)
Pros:
- Strong support system in Virginia (dad, sister, close friends)
- I already know a few VCU med students (mentorship / guidance)
- Richmond is such a cool city
- Cost (~$300,000 in-state)

Cons:
- Have lived in Virginia all my life (craving something new??)

MUSC (out-of-state)
Pros:
- Charleston is also such a cool city
- Would be a fun change after living in VA all my life
- More opportunities for competitive specialties??

Cons:
- Some family in South Carolina, not as close with them as in Virginia (less support system)
- Would be excited, but also scared about change??
- Cost (~$380,000 out of state)

Summary: Something new??

Please edit your post to provide more detail as according to the X vs Y template:

VCU for the price difference alone. 80k more for a new experience is not worth it. If the price difference was 40k or less, it may be more worth it to choose MUSC. You can always venture out of Virginia for residency. I think the support system you have with VCU in terms of your family and peers is really valuable as well.

You've got a better support system in Richmond and let's be honest, Richmond is pretty great. You're not saving any money moving out of state and already have some contacts at VCU as is. As above poster mentioned, lots of time to venture later such as residency.
