VCU
Pros:
- higher ranked
- match very well across a lot of specialties and across the country (although a lot stay on the east coast)
- I really liked Richmond when I visited
Cons:
- OOS a lot more expensive COA and rent (~100k difference in just tuition)
- about 7.5 hours from home (I went to undergrad this far away so it wouldn’t be new but I didn’t love driving that far) and I don’t have any family in Virginia
- no matches in Ohio (could just be that people don’t want to do residency there)
- I barely got to see any of the campus when I visited so I really don’t know much about their facilities
Toledo:
Pros:
- close to home (~3 hours) and all of my family lives in Ohio
- they match really well in Ohio which is where I want to do my residency
- IS COA and rent is very affordable
- very nice simulation center and facilities
- a lot of students from Cincinnati and Ohio which is nice for friends after med school 🙂
Cons:
- lower ranked (I don’t know what specialty I want to go into yet but thinking maybe cardio which is competitive )
Both schools:
- pass/fail
-curriculums are similar
