could someone explain this?

so my understanding is that it's a form of plant asexual reproduction and it occurs when an egg is fertilized by 2 sperm resulting in a 3N cell which develops into endosperm.


what happens after it becomes an endosperm?


wikipedia says that endosperm is the tissue that surrounds the seed in angiosperms..


a bit confused about this, so the endosperm is only the tissue surrounding the seed or is it the offspring from asexual reproduction?

to correct you an egg is not involved, an endosperm is created from 1 sperm nuclie and 2 polar nuclei (not the egg)--->3N--->endosperm
the endosperms job is to provide food for the embryonic plant, so you cant really say its an offspring
also the seed leaf is called the cotyledon

hmm, this was actually from the dat destroyer(2008 version).

here's the answer:

your explanation seems contradictory to the answer in the destroyer.
you're saying endosperm is tissue that provides food for the embryo whereas the destroyer says it's a form of asexual reproduction.

maybe the answer key is wrong?

i correct myself endosperm is one of the product of asexual reproduction so it is an offspring. destroyer is correct but is just worded weired

so basically you have to sperm nuclies, one of them will fertilizes the egg, forming a zygote, while the other fuses with the two polar nuclei at the center of the embryo sac, forming a primary endosperm cell (3N). so now you have double fertilization, the 3N will become the endosperm that provides the embryo with nutrition. And because the endosperm was created by a seperate fertilization it is considered to be an organism by itself which was accomplished by asexual reprodction

oh okk, kind of makes sense

so the endosperm(which was created by asexual reproduction) does not lead to an identical new plant but instead is created to support the embryonic plant which was created by sexual reproduction?

are carpel and pistil dif terms for the same female plant structure?

I'm having a hard time understanding how this would work.
How does this work? How would they fuse?
when you think about animal gametes, they're all one cell entities. I can't picture what a multi-cellular gamete is like.

to answer your first question pistil are made of one or more carpels, so you can use carpel
for the second question for plants its multi-cellular because a haploid gametophyte is a bunch of spores but together
