How do you guys study for the verbal section in PCAT? I took the PCAT in Oct and I knew I did very poor on the analogy and the sentence completion parts. I didn't know a lot of the vocabularies. I need help on the verbal section. And I am an international student, so English is not my first language 🙁

Doing well on the others will help to boost your score.

Hey,

I have the same problem. English is not my first language. I got a 35 in verbal ability however I did well on the other sections (88 composite score).

Should i rewrite or will my composite make up for my verbal?

Thx

There are two main barriers to doing well on PCAT verbal: knowing the words but being unable to make the connections, or not knowing the words but could make the connection if you did.

The former problem can be helped through practice. Old SAT prep books help by allowing you to practice with simpler words. The former problem can only really be helped with increasing your vocabulary base. Vocabulary building materials that teach Greek and Latin roots help and GRE word lists may help too (though possibly overkill).

As for your overall score, an 88 is quite good but you need to get that verbal up for schools that have section minimums.

I think that if you don't know the meaning of the words, then you can't make the connections at all. Unless you guess on the meaning based on the prefix or suffix, if they are any.

I think I will spend time studying the GRE words, so that I can load up my brain with new vocabs before the PCAT test.

And, another method that I am using is that I am reading books. When I see words that I don't understand I will write them down and look up their meanings on the dictionary. Hopefully, I will remember those new words!😱

If you go to the book store, you will see books which have SAT words embedded in the storyline. If reading makes you understand more like you said I would recomend these books for you. GRE words are a bit overkill for you, get to learning SAT words first.
