I apologize in advanced if someone has already ranted about this, because I know that verbal is a big problem for many people. My question is: what do you do when you're doing a passage and you find that you don't really understand the whole passage at all (either cause your mind just can't stop wandering, or you just can't understand, etc.)? I am following EK's strategy and I can't seem to get above an 8. I have the old version (~9 passages 60 questions). I'm trying to go little by little by doing 3 passages at a time for 8 minutes each.

I evaluate why I get answers wrong, but really it's mainly because I missed a detail or just didn't fully understand it right. Frustration is a big turn off for sure... well I'm going to take a TPR class starting Monday, hope that helps? Any advice?

yeah....pray.

Because I did EK verbal, then Took the TPR class and cant crack 8/9 and my test is in a week. The verbal was the reason I didnt test over summer so I am just going to take it this time and honestly, pray for the best. Sucks because my science scores are decent.

I think it's good that your science scores are alright. They can off balance it 😀

Unfortunately, a low verbal is a low verbal. Science scores do not compensate for that.

OP - you may want to learn how to read more critically. Also, keep in mind that nothing you would do can magically turn 8 into 10+. That's verbal.

In order to think more critically you have to be in the correct mindset. John Wetzel put it in a nice way on wikipremed.com: "Try to imagine I am a friend telling you something important, and listen carefully." So treat the passage as if your friend just handed you an essay to read, and he/she wants you to analyze it and wants your opinion on the passage after you read it. Try to depict what your friend's tone is, their main idea for writing the passage, etc...

I wish I would've had that information prior to taking my MCAT exam, I might've scored a little higher. My $0.02.

So you don't think that with consistent practice an 8 can get up to 10+? I'm really hoping so...

And do people go back and read the passage again when it's a hard one you don't really understand as much? Or you just pretty much guess your way through with as much as you think you understood?

after about 4 practice verbal tests, i got my score up from a 7 to a 10. hope it stays there on the real deal. practice lots and do EK. once you see some patterns, you'll get there.

for hard passages that i barely comprehend, i just keep reading and not going back. i feel that once i start answering some ques and eliminating wrong answers, i get a better feel of the passage
