I just got verified, and I am now more nervous than ever. My BCPM came back as 3.27 and my overall 3.47. My MCAT is 29, and I am both Hispanic and Native American. I live in CA which is super competitive. Now I'm wondering if I even stand a chance...

Welcome to the sub-forum! What is your school list looking like? Do you have good ECs/an interesting story?

Thanks!

I am non-trad, working 30+ hours as a banker while going to school, and had a premature baby while attending UC Davis (that is what hurt my gpa so much) ..... As far as childhood, my father left, and my mother suffered from alcoholism. For ECs I have volunteered at a hospital for a few months (will be a year soon), and I participated in other volunteering like spending a day helping at a children's hospital, helping school carnivals and the SPCA. I also have over a year in research experience.

As far as school list:
All CA schools, but I was planning on looking at OOS when I was verified.

Thanks for any help.

having an interesting life story is great, but you need to make sure that your story for what has led you into medicine is cohesive and interesting. Research and volunteering is very good...do you have leadership experience? Are you looking only MD or MD and DO?

I had submitted only MD this round. But I was planning on submitting to MD and DO next year if I don't get accepted. I worked as a banker for 8 years, and I was a top seller. I participated in development groups, trained new employees, and coached staff who needed to improve their sales. I have some older activities as well that show leadership, but my employment is definitely the most current.

I was led to medicine by my passion for biology and helping people, so I really want to be a doctor!! My PS covered volunteering experiences as well as the experience with my son being born premature.

I know you said you have a child, but how free are you to move? I'm sure you know your numbers are below average, espeically for the Cali schools. Still apply to every single one of them, but be sure to apply to plenty of out of state private schools as well. I know someone who applied to 30 and only got into a couple, but now she's somewhere excellent and none of that matters anymore. Good luck!

Also, submit apps ASAP. It's going to take time to get secondaries and many interviews are first come, first serve. Don't pay attention to the application deadlines, you should ideally be done with secondaries by the end of next month.

Yes definitely get your secondaries in as quickly as possible! BUT, you should *at least acknowledge* the deadline for each school you apply to... Because some of them request that your secondary be submitted within 2-3 weeks of receipt.

How long did it take to get verified?

I applied the first week of July. It still is in processing stage. How long does that take before getting verified and sent to the schools? Feeling anxious. Any thoughts?

Well I applied beginning of June, but one of my transcripts took FOREVER to get there. I was put in line 6/25 and finished 8/13. I had prewritten secondaries, and they were all submitted fast.

So far I have 4 interviews which has made me feel a little positive. 🙂 Albany, Dartmouth, Indiana, and UMinn Duluth have all invited me. I'm feeling optimistic!! Thank you everyone for the support!!! 🙂

Congrats! I know I'm late on the reply but I'm very happy for you! I hope they go well.
