Einstein seems like the most rational choice, but I’m unsure about living in the Bronx - felt sort of depressing being there, whereas UVM and UConn sparked joy for me.

Einstein
- 54k tuition
- highest ranked
- affordable on-campus housing
- gym, pool, b-ball court, hot tubs within on-campus housing
- near Manhattan, but in Bronx

UVM
- 64k tuition
- quiet, little city, which I like
- seems super chill overall, which I like
- on an undergrad campus plus a nursing school so lots of young cool ppl

UCONN
- 64-71k tuition
- really like this place
- unimpressive gym

Filtering out the bias that I’m from here, I can see how you might feel isolated since you’re not like near a city. The only areas around there are like the Morris park and westchester square area that has a decent amount of places to eat. The ride to the city isn’t too bad and you can take either the local train or the express bus. Either way I like the community that Einstein is in and I’m looking forward to a place that is not really in the heart of a city so I don’t get distracted but will know that I can always go to the city when I need a break (even though ideally I wanted to go to a school in the city but didn’t have the luxury lol)

It doesn't feel isolated to me, but I'm also from a town of like 5k people so that's my frame of reference. There are some very good restaurants nearby (especially Italian) and the Bronx Zoo and Botanical Garden are very close. The express bus to Manhattan is very convenient (literally leaves from campus)

This is exactly how I feel. Manhattan is always there, but isn't a distraction/ detriment to your ability to study.
.

I think Einstein would have much better match potential—if OP ever intends on doing residency in the East coast. The Bronx is still very close to the heart of NYC—just a train ride away to all the major stops in Manhattan. I dont think the location is much of an issue

If you felt 'depressed' based on an initial feeling during the interview, I would go elsewhere. You seemed to fit in much better at UVM and UCONN.

I didn’t feel like actually depressed haha. It just seemed sort of drab and grey everywhere. The buildings were all pretty old, the facilities were old, the anatomy lab seemed as least 40 years old, and the surrounding area seemed sort of run down

Idk though... do I really care about these things in the long run? I guess these things shouldn’t actually matter that much

No, but you asked why so few people have responded? The truth is you didn't write very much in your original post. I've been to all 3 campuses and have family right next to the Bronx. So where you went to school, and where you're from is relevant info. If you don't feel comfortable, that's fine. Best of luck!

haha I was just joking around. The areas I grew up in and went to college in are not like the Bronx at all. Which one did you like the best of the 3?

I think all 3 are excellent ranked programs with great match lists, opportunities. I think if money is an issue, you should edit your original post to reflect the total COA. Living, transportation and eating in NYC will cost you at least 20-25k a year.

As an Einstein student my cost of living is way less than that (like maybe 12k a year). On campus rent with all utilities and gym membership is < $500 a month. All transport to clinical sites is provided by the school. Maybe if you're heading into Manhattan and eating out and clubbing all the time you'd spend that, but not if you're reasonable. Idk maybe I'm just thrifty.

Also OP, what are you thinking in terms of specialty? Do you know if all these programs have that as a home program? I know that for the specialty I am planning to apply into many schools (including UVM and UCONN) do not have a home program but Einstein does which has been immensely helpful for networking, research opportunities, etc. Just another thing to think about.

Curriculum might be another thing to consider. I believe all 3 are pass/fail preclinical, but UVM is unique with its all flipped classrooms with no lectures, which may be a pro or con depending on your learning style.

For Tufts in Boston, Room and Board is 19k a year living in a dorm. I would imagine Einstein is similar, especially living off campus.

I'm not totally sure what I'm thinking for speciality yet. I've always had a random interest in plastic surgery, but not totally sure.

At this point and based on the results of this poll, I'm pretty sure about Einstein. It seems like the biggest bang for my buck!

If you think you might want to go into PRS, Einstein is definitely the best option for you as it is the only one that has a home plastics integrated residency program.

Let me know if you end up choosing Einstein! Would love to know a potential classmate going into first year.
