Ok so considering i was running off 3 hours of sleep and not really studying seriously until 48 hours ago... i dont think that my scores are that bad, though i was a bit dissapointed with my Bio, RC, and a bit of PAT...i blame the computer and those stupid angles being so close.

but anyway on with the show.

PAT: 23
QR: 25
RC: 20
BIO: 18
GC: 22
OC: 21
TS: 19
AA: 21

I'm currently a sophomore so i'm debating whether these scores are good enough for me to graduate early and apply this cycle. GPA is currently a 3.58, Science GPA should be somewhere around there as well. I shadowed the entire summer prior to freshman year ~30hrs/wk. Last summer i shadowed and assisted/interned ~20hrs/wk. This summer i plan on actually being a paid assistant as I am now an RDA. i think my EC is good, Club Tennis, Student Association, Community Outreach...etc. and i'm currently doing microfluidics research (manual dex?)

what do you all think? should i apply this year or retake and apply year after? that bio score is gonna be a thorn in my side for a while....

Nice scores, but I don't understand how your TS is as low it is when you have two 21s and a 18. How is that a 19 or did you mistype?
I think your scores are good enough, I would try to get in early if I was you. No reason not to. GPA is solid, you will get in.
GOOD LUCK

WOW thats intense, you had two threads within a day of each other and you got your scores back. I haven't taken the DAT yet so I haven't comprehended the getting scores back so fast 😀😀😀😀😀
BTW: did you sleep?

well you get the scores right after you take the test, and yes i got some sleep, all of 3 hours of it hahaha, showed up an hour early to exam and finished like 45 minutes early...

and uhhh idk how the TS was a 19, i guess the bio part is weighted more than the other 2 sections

hell yeah I would apply if I was you. If you have the pre reqs why not? two years into college and you did very nice on the DAT. I'm taking it tomorrow so hopefully I'll mirror your scores. Go for it. I would apply to a couple schools in NY, maybe Loma Linda, Indiana, Tufts and a lot more in state schools. with a 3.6 you will probably get more than one offer. I wouldn't even worry about the AA because you got two 20s and an 18 and those are great scores. Plus you got a 25 in QR and a 23 in PAT.

dude..are you serious???do ahead and apply man...your good to go...i just posted a funny thread about people like you...and i got some heat from some weirdos...but yeah...your DEF...gonna get in...just apply to tons of places cause some schools are weird and just throw away app because either your not a minority...or you have no ties with anyone in that dental school...so basically congrats on geting in!!

Similar scores to mine and I fared well this cycle. Congrats!

Hello,

Congrats on your score! They look great. Can you please tell me what books you studies to prepare for the DAT? I'd really appreciate it. Thank you.

:bullcrap:
According to the Dental Admission Testing Program Standard Score-Raw Score Conversions Table, it is mathematically impossible to receive this combination of scores. (BIO: 18 GC: 22 OC: 21 .... TS: 19).

"The Total Science score is not an average of the Biology, General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry standard scores. For example, if you answered 30-31 (18) items correctly on Biology, 27 on General Chemistry (22), and 26 on Organic Chemistry (21), your Total Science raw score would be 30-31 + 27 + 26, or 83-84. Next, find the score range in the "SNS" column that contains "83-84", i.e., the eleventh row down when the range is 81-85. Proceed left across that row to the "STD Score" column. In this example, the standard score for a raw score of 83-84 on the Survey of the Natural Sciences is 20."

Are you sure this is what the score report said? I doubt the software would calculate your score incorrectly.

Well, the bio section has 40 questions while orgo and gchem have 30 each......I seem to recall from my practice tests that TS was more influenced by the bio score for this reason.

Some people aren't satisfied unless they've seen the actual score report. Let it go man, let it go.

Its been awhile since I took my DAT, but I dont believe that score is possible either. Going from a 19 to 20 is also a big difference, I believe a 19 is somewhere is the 70th percentile while a 20 is in the mid 80s. I would be pretty upset if that happened to me.

Maybe the computer messed up his score, but I would go double check at the testing center.

How did you manage to get 25 on QR????
Please tell me what you practiced with or what kind of problems you worked with.

I think your scores are great and I would dancing if I was you!!!

umm, honestly i didnt really spend much time on the QR since most of it is baisic algebra and some of the geo is baisic reasoning that dont require calculations if you look at the answers, there was one question though that didnt have the correct answer as the answer choices? i mean i swear it wasnt there, i spent the last 5 minutes solving, resolving, plugging in answer choices, and i determined that there was a typo in the question...since one of the answers would have worked if a minor change was made to the question. but other than that it was pretty straightforward. its mostly about speed, and i got plenty of that, finished with 25 minutes left in PAT, and 23 minutes remaining in NatSci...

i am curious however what the percentile score means...because on the PAT it says 99.0 percentile but i got a 23 and on QR it said 97.5 percentile and i got a 25... anyone care to explain how that works?

You have a 25 QR and you can't figure this out? The percentile just tells you how many people scored at or below your score. So 1% scored above a 23 on the PAT and 2.5% scored above a 25 on QR.
To your original question, unless your plan is to get into Harvard, do not retake the DAT.

Go to the ADA website and learn how the scores are calculated. Until then, you let it go. My post is a direct quote from the website.

They questions are harder on one and they may grade harder on one, simple. They could make the top score a 30 and the next highest (getting 1 question wrong) a 20 if they wanted.

The TS score is probably correct. I want to say it isn't a scaled score in the same way that the rest of the sections are. Each individual science section is scaled. Your score is based on your performance and the difficulty of the questions you received. Every section has a few questions that are the same throughout each test so that they *can* compare you to everyone else taking the test. The rest of the questions are different. So if the computer determines you had an easy section and you get all 30 GC questions correct, you might only get a 27. If you had a very hard GC section and you get 30 right, you might get a 29 or 30.

The TS score is based on all 100 science questions and does not take into account which question types you got wrong. If you got 10 bio wrong you'd get the same TS score as if you got 2 bio wrong, 4 GC wrong, and 4 OC wrong. It's pretty much set in stone. All 100 right is a 30, if you get 99 right that's a 29, etc.

Awesome job!
As to graduating early, if you really want to get out of undergrad and into professional school then go for it. One of my good friends got accepted to numerous schools as a junior. They may ask you in an interview why you decided to graduate early so just be prepared to answer it.

P.s. Haven't seen you in a while Jiga!

Haha yeah, I was busy doing nothing!

How's school going for you so far? Enjoying your last semester of undergrad?
