Very Confused...advice?!

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to SDN and since I feel like I'm not getting my questions answered from ADA, AADSAS, and the specific dental schools I'm applying to, I thought I'd get some advice from you guys.

My first question is about DAT scores. I took mine on July 17th and they were uploaded onto AADSAS on the 28th. Several schools on my AADSAS app said they're still waiting for my official DAT scores, specifically Maryland, Buffalo and VCU, all of which I indicated on my DAT application as part of my 5 schools. I called the ADA and they said they send the official scores to the 5 schools at the same time they send them to AADSAS, so if AADSAS has them by now, the 5 schools should too.

Soo I called Buffalo and they said they have my DAT scores, they're just waiting on my letters of evaluation. I called AADSAS last week about my new mailing date (of 8/6) which I thought was for my letters (since it was in the letter of evaluation tab on AADSAS) but the woman told me that my letter was sent out the previous week and that new mailing date was for my DAT scores. This didn't really make sense to me, considering my LOE was received by AADSAS a day AFTER my DAT scores were. So I asked the woman again why my supplemental tab would say they are waiting on DAT scores when they're really waiting on my LOE and she said she's not sure and to contact AADSAS, but don't the schools basically take over AADSAS to indicate your status and what they're waiting on? They don't call AADSAS and tell them specifically what to update for them, do they?

I also called Maryland and VCU who said they're also waiting on my scores but were also included in my 5 schools and VCU said: "We do receive new or updated DAT scores regularly from AADSAS however to ease your concerns, you may fax a copy of the unofficial scores to our office." Fortunately I had faxed my scores the day after I took the test, but they still indicate that they're waiting on my official scores. As for Maryland, they said "To date, we have not received your DAT scores. We will look for your scores to come through with the next download"


Basically my concerns are: Why does Buffalo supposedly have my DAT scores but the other two do not? I thought once your scores are downloaded onto AADSAS, schools can look at them on a daily basis? Why are Maryland and VCU telling me that they receive DAT scores during periodic downloads? Any idea why my 5 schools haven't gotten the official ADA reports but AADSAS has?


I apologize for suchh a long post but I'm starting to get very paranoid and these ambiguous answers just aren't helping! Thank you for any advice!!

I would like to know this too. My DAT scores were posted as "received" on Monday, does that mean the schools can just log on to AADSAS and see my scores? Or do they wait for the scores to be mailed?

The ADA sends your scores electronically to AADSAS and the schools you indicate at the same time. However, the official reports are mailed out much later. For example, my scores were sent to AADSAS on 7/21, and on the same day they were available for schools to view electronically. They were actually mailed to the schools today though.

I understand your problem. I called UF today because they sent me an email saying they were putting me on hold because they didn't have my scores. But the person I talked to said they had them and my application is under review. lol.

So...my understanding of the whole AADSAS update thing is that some schools use it, some don't, and some do but don't change stuff on it or just put something up there. It's confusing I know. 🙄

So the "official" reports aren't sent to the 5 schools until a few weeks after they send your scores to AADSAS?

and any idea why maryland and vcu are implying that they have to download my DAT scores at specific times? I've called them a few times before and both say I don't need to send them seperate scores from the ADA and that AADSAS is sufficient, so when I told them my scores have been on AADSAS since July 28th and I thought they just got them from there, they told me about checking for my scores during the next download period?? Anyone know what this means??
