Hello guys, afatasstank here,
i am currently a junior and on winter break between semesters. i have one more semester left until i apply to med school which i will do in the summer. ive heard that some med schools want 2 english courses but idk if thats true. so far i havnt taken any college level english courses, so if it is true would that mean that i have to take both courses next semester or can i take them during senior yr after i apply to med school? please answer.

they only need to be completed prior to matriculation...as far as i know

you just have to take the pre-requisites prior to entering medical school..
so no.. you dont have to take both next semester..
though a english comp class + litt class wouldn't be too difficult to pull of.. which will suffice your english needs.

technically pre-reqs just have to be done prior to matriculation. however, they do like to see them at the time of application and may question you about not having them. i didn't have 2 english classes when i applied, only one, and the schools that required english classes definitely asked me about it. as long as you plan on taking them before you enter med school though and tell them that it should be fine.

It would be a good idea to at least have one in progress at the time of application IMO.

the title of this thread is very misleading.

thanks for answering guys, so just to be clear, i do need 2 courses and i can wait and takem during senior year after i already apply?

Just to be safe, contact, or look on the website of schools you are particularly interested in. That way you know for sure.

thanks for the suggestion, but meh, that would require doing a lot of work, and also i havnt even started looking at schools yet.

Prior to matriculation is fine so senior year is fine. I'm guessing most med schools know that you will be taking them some time before you graduate as I don't know of any 4 year university major that doesn't have basic English requirements. 😕

im majoring in chemistry and in biology and i could graduate without taking these 2 annoying english courses

Each school has different requirements; check the websites of some schools you want to apply to and plan to take the appropriate pre-reqs.
