Very important question regarding residencies and GPAs

Don't worry. It's pointless anyway- completely derailed 😉

good. in that case, I will derail further. Anyone have plans for tonight? DH and I are going out to eat and to watch the Cocks kick some FSU butt in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl tonight. Too bad I can't get a Chick-Fil-A to go with it 🙁

Cyc was right, you really are too immature to be in pharmacy school. I like it how you think I'm a troll because you disagree with me.
.

And you are too stupid to be a pharmacist. You are obviously a troll hence why are you are banned.

Ok regarding residencies:

how much weight do they put on your undergrad GPA then? my friend said medical residencies ask for undergrad transcripts but really put no weight on them.

additionally, how is it fair to compare the following 2 GPAs when determining honors, Rho Chi eligibility, or scholarship qualifications?

1) 4 year science degree at Harvard, Yale, Stanford etc. + 4.0 3 year Pharm GPA (not including rotations) = 3.2
2) 2 year community college + 3.5 3 year Pharm GPA = 3.5

I just don't understand how any policy that combines undergraduate and professional school GPA can make any sense, regardless of how you classify the pharm degree, unless you were doing a 0-6 program, or transferred in from the same school? Even transfers between undergrad schools usually do not count the prior GPA. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this?

Some residencies/programs are super competitive so they try to get as much information as possible about every applicant. For example when Harvard Dental school invited me for an interview they also ask me to send a copy of my HIGH SCHOOL transcript and SAT scores to them. Harvard dental school not only use undergraduate GPA as a factor for admissions but they also request all people that they interview to send a copy of their high school transcript and SAT score. Is high school VERY important in determining success in dental school? NO, but when a program is that competitive they ask for as much information as they can get to compare each applicant.

If a residency is very competitive it is not uncommon for them to ask for additional information to get a better picture of the applicant.

most competitive programs ask for a standardized test score: GRE, GMAT, SATs mostly. i know many consulting firms and banks ask for one of the above 3 so that they have a standard reference to compare their applicants against.
