Ok, I am not even looking at Allopathic schools right now, because they are out of the question. At least I think they are even with a good Masters program gpa under my belt. Right now I am looking at Carribean Medical Schools, but I would hope that a good graduate post-bacc will help me get into a DO school.

My main question is that I had undiagnosed learning disabilities though most of my college. I didn't actually get on ADD medication until I finished college. Also, I was in a subject I hated, Accounting. 😴

Anyways, I ended up with a 2.85 GPA. I haven't taken any science classes yet. Except for a chemistry and physics class which I got a B in both of those--those are pre-med general chemistry and calculus based physics. I obviously haven't taken the MCAT. Right now I am looking at going back and taking all the pre-med classes.

My main question is with a science GPA of over a 3.5. A high MCAT score, I guess ~35. On top of that, a high GPA >3.5 in something like a 1 year medical science masters program. What would be my chances of getting into a Osteopathic medical school? Would they be willing to overlook my bad performance as undiagnosed learning disabilities?

Heck, lets just throw in state side Allopathic medical schools too. What would be my chances at those?

A master's does not matter as your undergraduate GPA is what counts.

Since DO does grade replacement, look at your transcript carefully (put it in a spreadsheet) and see what would happen to your GPA if you retook all classes in which you made a B- or less. If you have a few F's, this will rapidly improve your GPA. Combined with the fact that you haven't yet taken any of the pre-reqs, I bet you can get your GPA in a pretty good range in a reasonable time-frame.

If you have many scattered mediocre grades, i.e,. lots of B- and C+, this will not work as fast, so it is transcript dependent.

Figure out how many courses you need to take to get that cumulative as high above 3.0 as possible. Schools do look at BCMP but cumulative is more important.

Also, why do you think you can get a 35 MCAT? Your right to shoot for that score, but wrong to expect a good MCAT to make up for the gpa. Theres also many other things involved in the processes that you may have not taken into consideration. Research, shadowing physicians, hospital volunteering all will make you a better applicant and prove your dedication to the field. Also remember the MCAT is ~5 hours long and may be particularly troubling for ADD test takers.

If you can write a great personal statement expressing your change of career, obtain some great letters of recommendation, shadow a DO, and pull up that gpa to > 3.2, I think you could get into a DO school with a 28MCAT maybe less.

Oh. I have been looking at my grades on a spreadsheet. I guess this means a change in plans. I should probably spend the next 1-2 making up classes, then.

I am wondering if 2 extra years of class taking would be worth it to get into a DO school over a Carribean medical school though?😕
