Ok so basically I started out my first year of college at UIC with a decent GPA, I got a 3.72. Sophomore year is where I basically just screwed up, my GPA got down to a 3.42. I have never gotten a C in any course so basically all my grades are A's and B's. As of now here is my GPA

Overall 3.42
Science GPA 3.34
BCP 3.12
Non Science 3.6

Now im looking to apply this summer but they way my GPAs look its going to be close to impossible to get accepted. I am in my third year and will be taking the DAT this February. Now lets say I get a 20 on the DAT, what do you think my chances are. Will I at least get some interviews. My BCP Gpa is whats scaring me right now.

This Semester Im enrolled in 18 credit hours
Physiology
Microbiology
Genetics
Biochemistry
Physics

The BCP gpa is a little low as you know. So taking more science courses should raise it up.... if you do well. That being said taking those 5 courses together is going to be extremely challenging.

Overall all though I would say your are ok if you get a 20 DAT and if you do well in the rest of your courses.
Do you have any shadowing, volunteering, and ECs? Because those can only help (and not to mention shadowing is necessary.)

i'm not sure i understand... you're looking to apply this summer but you're not taking your dat until february?

is that even physically possible? that's past a lot of school's deadlines.

"Now lets say" you take your dat then chime in.

Are you applying this cycle? If yes, your chance is slim because taking DAT in Feb is really late. If no, apply in June next cycle, you might have some interviews.
PS: Oh goodness, 18 credits of all science classes, wish you luck. If you screw up this semester, your GPA would get even worse. Don't let your BCP GPA drop below 3.

You think if I do well this semester that the Dental schools would be impressed that I took all these courses at once and did good?

BTW Im taking the DAT February of '10 and applying summer of '10

that's IF you do well. you did well freshman year... but your science grades have slipped since, no? you don't think you're taking a bit of a risk by loading up on all those sciences, when it appears you haven't been really getting A's in them?

and to the poster above, BCP means bio-chem-physics

If you do well with those five courses at once, you deserve to be in dental school 🙂 I'm just not sure why you are making it that difficult on yourself when there doesn't seem to be any reason behind doing so.

You're right, but the thing is the majority of those courses, I missed the A by a few points. 89.5 in General Chem 1, 89 in Orgo I know it doesn't show on the transcript but it would mean I am capable of getting that A

Had I not slacked off Sophomore year and not ditched classes I guess I could have did better.

I would say take biochem and genetics and maybe physics to be impressive. This load seems impossible for the 4.0 GPA. You might do more harm than good.

I figured if I took a few science courses my gpa won't increase by that much where if I loaded it up on science courses and did well on them my BCP GPA would increase more.
