Here is something not often talked about in pharmacy practice, and I thought I'd bring it to the forum's attention. Veterinary pharmacy is a very small niche within community pharmacy practice, but is a service that can be provided by compounding pharmacies with proper training. Here is an interesting article about it, I just ran across today:

(I like the last line of the story...hilarious! )

This is supposed to be the website for the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists. It doesn't seem to have much info 🙁 ...but it does have some contact info if anybody is interested.

Hmm this reminds me of a little experience I had. When I was in undergrad I was interested in becoming either a veterinarian or a pharmacist. And I had spoken with a certain professor quite frequently about pursuing veterinary medicine. Well one day he found out that I had been awarded our university's pre-pharmacy scholarship and he went ballistic. He called the Dean of the College of Science and demanded that my scholarship be taken away from me b/c I was deceitful and "had no intention of pursuing pharmacy". He organized a meeting with all of the deans of the particular departments within the College of Science and I was fortunate enough to keep my scholarship.

I think the only reason I got to keep my scholarship was b/c I pleaded my case by saying I intended to become a pharmacist who made drugs for animals. So thanks for the link! Maybe one day I'll do it. 🙂

Thanks for posting. Though the webpage is lacking in some info. I actually had to go to a specialty/compounding pharmacy when my guinea pig was sick. He needed special medication so they mixed it up and flavored it with carrot 🙂
