Hey friends, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with getting into veterinary technical writing? How did you do it? Is there anywhere in particular to look for these types of jobs? Hoping to maybe pick it up as a side gig while I finish my grad studies 🙂

You can pm me. I do writing and editing. I’m not sure if jobs like mine would take editors and writers still in grad school but I know some do. But I think a lot of those are freelance. It would likely be hard to get a full time salaried job just with a DVM I think but it doesn’t hurt to apply. I know some companies are happy to take a cv and cover letter even if they want to wait until you have that magic grad degree.

edited and…there is not enough work at my company to just do veterinary writing. About 90% is human clinical so you might/more than likely would have to do some human clinical.

I gradually transitioned from small animal GP to FT freelance veterinary writer over the last 6ish years.

I initially started out editing, but I've directed several people in that direction and it sounds like there aren't many openings right now. Another good place to start is upwork.com - a lot of the jobs listed on there are terrible, but there are some good ones if you sift through the low-paid CBD-based listings.
