Hey everyone, I am looking to narrow down my list of schools to apply to and does anyone here have any experience with Virginia? Anyone go there for undergrad or have visited the school? I am down here in FL and am interested in applying there but haven't been to the school yet, so any shared experiences would be helpful. Thanks and good luck everyone! 😀

Hi,
I don't have much personal experience with the school itself, but I applied there from out of state (NC) last year. As you probably know they have 10 out of state spots; what I did not know when I applied was that out of state applicants are separated by whether or not they have an in state school. I was told (when I called in May to discuss how to improve, etc.) that my application was automatically in the second, lower tier because I have an instate school. I can understand why VA-MD would do this, but I won't be submitting another application there this year. I'm sure its a great school, and I would have been happy to go there had they admitted me! Just wanted to pass on my experience, as it may be relevant to you too!

I am currently in my first year at VMRCVM. While it is true that we only have 10 OOS spots, in fact many of those spots went to people who DO have an in state school. Many are from PA, I think one is from TX, and the others I can't remember. So I wouldn't let that discourage you from applying, although there are other schools that have more OOS spots to offer.

Other than that, I am enjoying school here so far. It is a beautiful area, and the school really makes you feel welcome once you get here. The faculty all seem nice and eager to make things interesting for us, as do the other classes. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me 🙂

I don't mean to suggest that an oos w/in state option can't get in. As I said, I don't have any insider info on the school; I only know what the admissions office told me.

How's the financial aid at VTech? How are the people/classes? I may go there one day... In state thankfully...

So the Out of state Students are students that don't live in VA or MD?

Yep, they accept 50 VA residents and 30 MD residents (both considered instate) each year, and then 10 out-of state residents (anywhere else).

The people and classes are good so far (after 2 weeks of class). They work really hard during the weeklong orientation to get you to know your classmates and have lots of day and evening activities planned. So far most in class seem nice and willing to help others. We are constantly getting emails of people sharing a good dissection website or notes they typed up for the whole class.

I find financial aid extremely frustrating in general, but there is a specific woman who deals with the vet med fin aid, and they came and answered our questions during orientation. I had no problems getting enough $$ for school and living expenses, but I am sure that is an individual situation type of thing.

If you want more specifics about the classes or anything else, let me know! 🙂

I have been to the site a few times.
Do you have a choice of which campus to be on, or do you have to be on VTech campus?
I have been trying to find out if I am able to get some more information about the college and the program thro the mail. But I can't find it. Could someone give me a link to get so I can have some written information?

Thanks
