Does anyone use a virtual scribe? I'm interested in good or bad experiences, and ballpark cost. It sounds like they listen in on a conference speaker phone while you meet with a patient so they're not sitting in the room as a distraction (which might be important for psych patients). If I can get admin to approve this I hope this would help our less efficient doctors get documentation done on time. We may end up offering it as a service physicians can pay for as a deduction out of their paycheck. I think a lot of doctors would be happy to pay this if it means less EHR headache.

I imagine it as a very hard sell to patients in consenting process, honestly. "What we talk about here is confidential between you, me, and a random person in The Philippines and/or India."

Wow this is the solution for those who aren't able to get their work done in a timely fashion? What about the psychiatrist's assessment regarding the things the patient said, their affect, appearance etc? If you do this hopefully there will be a hefty lame upcharge added to the cost of the scribe services.

The ultimate solution is firing the person. But we don’t have enough psychiatrists to replace him/her.

Appreciate the response. In my narrow view the psychiatrists who should have been fired, for whatever reason, but weren't resulted in a lost window of opportunity, because it can be difficult to justify firing someone, as well as a degradation in department morale and a loss of respect for leadership.

I think when "managing" or "medical directing" doctors the goal is to help people overcome problems and keep them on the team, especially if they are well liked socially, which this doctor is. Also, recruiting a new doctor is hella expensive and time consuming.
